PROVIDING KNOWLEDGE AND ACCESS IS THE CORNERSTONE OF HEALTH EQUITY
Empowering communities with the right information, not only enhances individual health outcomes but also fosters a culture of well-being and resilience. Health equity ensures that every individual, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location, has access to the quality healthcare they need. In rural areas, disparities in healthcare access and education can lead to preventable illnesses and a lower quality of life. By focusing on education and knowledge dissemination, we aim to bridge these gaps and provide rural populations with the tools they need to make informed health decisions.
Our educational programs are designed to reach even the most remote communities, ensuring that everyone gets the opportunity to learn and thrive. We conduct workshops, seminars, and community meetings to deliver this essential information in vernacular languages, tailored to be culturally relevant and easily understood. By educating individuals about their health, we empower them to take control of their well-being and contribute to the health of their communities. In addition, we train women in production of health products at the local level, to ensure access to all.
We work on projects that are instrumental in promoting a healthier rural population, reducing the incidence of diseases and thereby health burdens. We are building an ecosystem that enhances the capacity of local healthcare structures and ensures continued health education, helping the community make informed health decisions.
MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT
We have worked extensively on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management campaigns for rural adolescent girls and young women in Bihar and Jharkhand. We have conducted 500+ information and discussion sessions in Anganwadi centres, Government schools and Community Halls to help break taboos regarding menstruation and promote safe and healthy periods. We promote the use of proper menstrual hygiene practices and provide access to health products for the same.
SANITATION AND GENERAL HYGIENE
We run community-wide health and hygiene camps against open defecation and environmental sanitation. We have conducted a handwashing and hygiene campaign in 100 schools in Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand. We also constructed the first Community Sanitation Complex in Marchi village in Bihar.
HEALTH CAMPS
Providing access to Primary Healthcare is of utmost importance in remote areas. We conduct 3 types of routine Health Camps Dental Camps, Eye Camps and Mother and Child Camps. Apart from a health check-up, we also include oral hygiene sessions for tobacco-related dental problems and nutrition awareness sessions to combat anaemia in adolescent girls and pregnant women.
HEALTH VOLUNTEERS TRAINING
Training frontline health workers is crucial for improving public health outcomes, particularly in resource-limited settings such as the areas we work in. Parinaama trains Community Health Volunteers as knowledge brokers and enable information dissemination. Our curriculum is developed on information regarding maternal and child health, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and basic emergency care in cases of limited access to primary care.
NUTRITION SENSITIZATION
In rural areas, malnutrition, both undernutrition and overnutrition, remains a significant challenge due to limited access to diverse and nutritious foods and lack of awareness. We conduct sensitization programs to educate the community about the importance of a balanced diet, proper feeding practices for infants and children, and the nutritional needs of different age groups, especially to improve mother and child health. We actively promote the cultivation and consumption of mushrooms, millet and other locally available food sources.
COVID-19 INTERVENTION
We conducted awareness camps on COVID-19 and included handwashing sessions in local areas. We also distributed masks, soaps and pads and groceries for the Urban and Rural Poor in Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Delhi.
